Murmuüre - Murmuüre (2011)

A dizzying album of an array of influence, from industrial to avant black metal. A whole world of sounds is on this tape. The influence of artists like Coil, The Angelic Process, film directors Akira Kurosawa and E. Elias Merhige. "One" the artist behind this album revealed Begotten had profound effect on making this album and described the album as his interpretation of the movie.
Weird ass black metal

Kidcrash - Naps, Snacks, Jokes (2007-2011)

Taken from sophiesfloorboard
She says everything you need to know
"Kidcrash (sometimes referred to as "The Kidcrash") play a very progressive, math rock-esque style of post-hardcore, with elements of post-rock and screamo thrown in. They come off as both intense and intriguing, with some incredible displays of musicianship in addition to their raw assault. I don't know how many damn times I listened to Jokes and Snacks a few years back, but they never get tiresome. Kidcrash have also been a major influence on a lot of post-hardcore bands that are kicking around now, and I'm sure you can hear the similarities in countless bands today. Even if you're a fan of older bands, like Daitro, City Of Caterpillar, Kill Sadie, Unwound, etc., you could definitely get into Kidcrash as well. To sum it up, if you want some intense, experimental post-hardcore, no band does it better than Kidcrash. Enjoy."

Swallowed - Lunarterial (2014)

This slaps.
Look at that fucking cover art.
This album is a insanely unhinged blackened savagery of armageddon. The last song of this album is a 25 minute decent into the apocalypse. Flesh and bone being ripped from your body and your entrails tied to a catapult and thrown into the abyss, demons slashing at you as the tornado of shrapnel brings you to the emperor of darkness and you are banished to an eternity of suffering.
check it out ya'll!!

9 DROPS OF IMPURE BLOOD

Liturgy - Reihilation (2009)

The first (second really but lets not talk about the first one) record from New York's transcendental black metalists Liturgy. This is the good one folks, Mixed my Colin Marston of Krallice so you know it's metallic as fuck. Chants, dualing guitars, CRAZY drumming, reverb laden vocals, essays on black metal. This is the shit honestly, I've talked about how much I love this band before cause I think they make genius music and Greg Fox is absolute beast on the kit. Fuck calling it hipster bullshit, it's a great black metal album

Mysterium

Plebeian Grandstand - False Highs, True Lows (2016)

Probably my favourite black metal album of last year, France's Plebeian Grandstand delivery and relentless wave of blackened doom.
Techy drums, psychedelically influenced riffs, imposing vocals that cover the mix with darkness. This album can make your stomach turn like the wave's eroding France's coast. .
Just check it out

Low empire

Lullaby For the Working Class - I Never Even Asked For Light (1997)

Lullaby For The Working Class was an indie folk rock band from Nebraska active in the 90s. Fronted by Ted Stevens of Mayday and Cursive with Mike Mogis and his brother of Bright eyes. Down home acoustic melancholy rock with folk instrumentation. Think early dashboard confessional with mandolins and glockenspiel, Connor Oberst style lyrics and just great production.
Sorry for the lack of posts I've been having a mental breakdown

Show me how robots dance

Softside - Lower hands (2017)

Softside is the bedroom project of Guelph's own Ian Bain. Ian is involved with the place 4 bands organization who's members make up the band Baby Labour and organize cool shows around Guelph for a year now. This is ian's project's debut ep, the release was rad the ep being released on frisbee (whhaaattt??). Think Frank Ocean, meets bedroom project, meets jazz education. Moody, autotuned vocals over 808s and smooth jazz chords and synth melodies. Super bonk

Austin Peralta - Endless Planets (2011)

This album has been my shot for like a year now, The second I found it I was just blown away by the musically and professionalism and how realized the sound is on this album. Then I was blown even further away by the fact that this is Stacy Peralta of dogtown and Z-boy's son, THEN blown even further away by the fact this is on flying lotus's brainfeeder label THEN FOR A FOURTH TIME BLOWN TO THE FUCKING COSMOS OVER THE FACT Austin Peralta died in 2012 due to drug related causes like all great jazz musicians. I think I found out about this album when BadBadNotGood where doing a live radio braodcast and my sister let me borrow her van to run some errands and I just sat there in a parking lot listening to them talk about shit they were into and this came up.
Rip to a modern legend and condolences to the Peralta family.

Ode to Love

Tujiko Noriko - From Toyko To Naiagara (2003)

Pitchfork calls this "laptop folk", I call it portishead meets bjork in japan circa 2003. Downtempo, idm, shy vocals, intelligent pop, I don't fucking know, it's amazingly beautiful, I'm partly drunk, summer is in my veins, rail that ket kids/This blog is becoming just what I want it to be about, random albums that no one but my friend know and me bloating about my obscure taste

Panopticon - Social Disservice (2011)

The last album from Austin Lunn's crusty, society-hating, lo-fi black metal days. Lo-fi is saying alot cause I love the sound of this album and everything sounds very good compared to what is lo-fi in black metal. The album after this, Kentucky, is pretty good aswell and captures his love for the nature of his home and the hate for the exploitation of the coal mine workers, but far before his albums about doing wood work across the globe and making beer with his brother.  He's still crusty and society/government hating but he realized he likes trees more then he hates the government.

Scars run so deep. A ghost of me is all you will see. The burns from a rope I never tied. The scars on wrists I never cut: Made by the life I didn't want.

Dave Pike - Jazz For The Jet Set (1966)

In much the same way hippies can be an iconic symbol of the late ’60s, the early ’60s might be represented by the world of the Jet Set. The Jet Set was a carry over from the Café Culture of the ‘50s and first popularized in such films as Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (1960) and Edward’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). The women were beautiful, glamorous, and sexually available. The men were slick, sharply dressed, and talking the fast hip lingo. The alcohol flowed, cigarettes burned, and the music always swung.
Herbie Hancock is on this album, I just toke like 35mgs of melatonin, enjoy the silky organ and tastful vibraphone passages. Life is easy when you're completely insane

Just Say Goodbye

Martin Denny - Forbidden Island (1958)

Martin Denny is the father of "exotica", lounge music to create the puesdo experience of having the tropics pour out of the hi-fi speakers in your living now.
To quote opium-hum "Try as you might, you end up saying things like, "Martin Denny is way better than he'll ever be given credit for," and mean it. I'm definitely a sucker for vibraphone, marimba, and the like, and those are all over this record, but it's more than that. I mean, who could resist such laid-back, oddly mysterious sounds? Not this guy."
It's 6 in the morning, it was humid as fuck, I'm wearing a Hawaiian button up, I had a terrible night as always and I'm approaching a mental breakdown. Krakatoa!

Oval - 94 Diskont (1996)

Previously on Belowsleep
Liturgy/Oval Split
"deconstructing music and digital audio by using exacto knives, paint, and tape to damage the surfaces of compact discs, only to stitch the sound back together in loops of melody punctuated by the disc's physical skips"
A brilliant Glitch/Ambient album by German's Oval. Abstract looped sounds over melodies. Beautiful sleep album. Last night it took me 35mgs of melatonin to fall asleep then I dreamed about a girl I messed things up with and I kissed her head.

Do while

Aäkon Këëtrëh - Dans La Forêt (1996)

Lo-fi, atmospheric, depressive dark ambient and "black metal" demos from the les legion noirs member Lord Aäkon Këëtrëh. Imagine walking there a cold dark forest in the France countryside with only a full moon illuminating the journey.

Red House Painters - Songs For A Blue Guitar (1996)

It's 2 am, I'm partly drunk, I  wanted to kiss a girl tonight and glad that I didn't cause she was real drunk too, my close friend is in agonizing depression with no hope in sight, and Mark Kozelek is the biggest asshole in sadcore.
This is the only Red House Painters album I could really get into and circa may last year my favourite album to cut myself to for some reason. Honest melancholy songwriting with memorable hooks and excellent instrumentation, lyrics relating back to growing up and missing home, a departure from moody chorused acoustic tunes of the first few albums, hints of what was to come with sun kil moon.

Have you forgotten? How to love yourself?

Maudlin Of The Well - Bath/ Leaving Your Body Map (2001)

Toby Driver is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and artist, best known for his work as the frontman of the experimental bands maudlin of the Well and Kayo Dot. His music contains elements from many different genres including doom metal, jazz, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, post rock, progressive metal, death metal, and gothic metal, as well as chamber music, ambient music and new-age music. Maudlin's music, lyrics, and atmosphere dealt predominantly with the subject of astral projection. The band described their approach as trying to find music rather than compose it. This was done through practicing astral projection and lucid dreams, from which they were purportedly able to "bring back" pre-existing music from the astral plane.
These two albums were released as companion to each other, each album's features cover art befitting the title of its counterpart.
Another late teens album I have spent many a night attempting to control the realm of my own dream world but alas have never succeeded, best played back to back starting with bath with many sleeping pills, lying on one's back in order to best leave the feeling of being human.
Kayo Dot is another band that will be posted here aswell as other releases from motW that are harder to find (these 2 albums are the easy ones)

Khanate (2001-2009)

Oh boy am I in a mood tonight. I found that I was missing khanate from my library. A burrito, bottle of tap water and 2 cigarettes later and I got all their studio albums together in one place. So for the lucky few to happen apon this domain, I give you, KHANATE!!!!.
A drone metal supergroup.
Stephen O'Malley
Tim Wyskida
James Plotkin
Alan Dubin
Together they found they formed the band that is the soundtrack to a mental breakdown.
A vortex of grinding, slow, brittle, misanthropic, piercing, unpredictable noise that thralls the listener into despair.
I love this band.
Here today I bring you all their studio albums in one place. Recorded live stuff is another story.
Kill yourself <3

Techno Animal - Brotherhood Of The Bomb (2001)

Abstract dark atmospheres, noisy distorted drums, harsh synths, and gritty verses. This ain't techno, this is illbient in it's truest form. One of my favourite albums my late teens, an album that sent me in a direction of looking for harsher, denser, and heavier electronic music. Best played on as many drugs as possible running from the cops in a high speed chase threw neo-detroit. The legendary Justin Broadrick is half of techno animal with Kevin Martin as other half. Think stripped down death grips with all the #noid as you'd want from an amphetamine binge in a decrepit apartment infested with roaches and used needles.

something's coming for us, the sky is falling, what the fuck do we do?

Ethelwulf - The Wolf Gang's Rodolphe/Damare Shizukani (2012)

Before Xavier Wulf became the alpha k9, he was Ethelwulf. Ya'll who know me know how much of a fan of the Memphis revival/2012 cloud rap scene that happened and how much ps2 I played and how much weed I smoked. These two eps were on constant repeat for me. Back in 2014, my best friend and I spent a cold hungover February morning taking bong hits and finishing Jak II start to finish at his girlfriend's apartment in Hamilton overlooking the scummy downtown area. These 2 eps and various other early cloud rap tunes were in rotation. The Wolf Gang's Rodolphe features an entire other side of every track chopped and screwed by I don't know who, basically introduced me to the chopped and screwed genre.

I'm getting high cause I don't care bout nothin' else

Liturgy/Oval Split (2011)

There's alot of talk about "hipster" "transcendental" "bad"  New York experimental black metal band Liturgy. I love them, the album from 2015 was extremely ambitious and went in new directions hunter wanted to go but is alas a very flawed album. I'm more fan of their earlier works, renihilation is one of my favourite albums of all time and I'll be posting it soon cause it's alittle difficult to find for free so fuck it. In the mean time here's their split with Oval, a German experimental glitch artist, another one of my favourite artists and a constant in my old sleep playlists back in the day of shuffling a 1 day long playlist of post-rock and ambient music. On the liturgy side is one 20 minute piece of transcendental bm goodness that others will hate me for (rip this blog due to insecurity from the opinions of others), the oval side a short burst of glitchs, percussion hits and ambient noises. Released on record store day 2011 threw thrill jockey and ripped by me (It's harder than you think). Can't find this for free and I lost the bandcamp download provided so here ya go!!!

AAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Sunn O))) - Reheasal Demo 2011 (2012)

Raw, earth-shaking drone from everyone's favourite robe wearing masters of sound, Sunn O))). A professional demo released on vinyl as a tour only release, haha sucker I got it for free from the heroin master opiumhum.
If you continue to follow this blog you should also follow him because he posts more shit then a ape trapped at a zoo taking out its rage by throwing massive amounts of shit at patrons of the of this massive joke of a world wishing to see "nature"

Baby Labour - Aruban Sandwich/Gun Black Tape (2015)

Baby Labour are Guelph's local math rock heroes. They formed a few years back and have been making big waves within the GTA in the last year. These guys are mind-blowing live and such cool dudes. Think early tera melos with a sprinkle of "bonk"
I wanted to put up alot of videos I took of them and various other artists playing at a tribute for late jazz musician/teacher, Ken Aldcroft, but my computer decided corrupting them during the transfer would be a better idea so now all I got is a dinky little instagram video of the magic that was that show. Downloads for the two releases that made their "summer sixteen mixtape" they sell at recent shows.

BIG STUPID DUMB BABY

Natural Snow Buildings - The Dance Of The Moon And The Sun (2006)

Natural Snow Buildings is a duo from France, consisting of artists Mehdi Ameziane and Solange Gularte. They play music which can be classified as experimental psychedelic folk with drone elements and ambient influences. Why do french make such amazing post-rock?  I only have listened too this album but they have ALOT of work out there that I should be checking out. I found this in the summer after I'd moved into this place and for along time it was my main sleeping album, it's 2 and a half hours of godspeedy post-rock build ups that only the biggest ketamine and heroin addicts would love. I'm about to take my usual more then recommended amounts of melatonin and apo-hydroxine to put myself to sleep for 12ish hours after a long day of seeing jazz shows and hating myself. Videos and more uploads soon!!!!
2 part download cause this thing is huge.

Gaza - I Don't Care Where I Go When I Die (2006)

The band I wish I was into in high school, probably the most brutal sludge/grindcore record I've ever heard. Tracks on this album sound like being gutted and fucked by a chainsaw then thrown into a meat grinder like pigs at the slaughter house. Gaza later became Cult Leader after rape allegations were made towards Jon Parkin and he decided to step down and a name change was made to distance themselves from controversy. Cult Leader are currently signed to Deathwish and have 2 eps and a full length out, I'll make a post about them soon. For now get your ears fucked by this album

There ain't no future in this

(test post) Black Baron - Abject Skin (2015)

Black Baron are a post-punk band from Hamilton, Ontario. The members are in multiple other projects including Snake Charmer, Disgusti, and Born Wrong. I once described this band as "a rose growing between two high rises in downtown hamilton, slowly wilting away in the cold cement from the lack of sunlight" Highly cathartic music. Ripped from vinyl that I got when they came too Guelph and played with Stuka (rip). Sorry my mastering skills suck and the mix is quiet.

I just can't figure out why everyday's the same

I'm gonna re-do this post once I re-rip the black baron vinyl and get a better quality rip
